Our team of four arrives near the base of Cape Washington about a mile from the large emperor penguin colony we will be spending the next 45 days filming. We are supported by the italians via Zucchelli Station receiving a supply drop once a week by helicopter.

David Reichert (DP), Anthony Pyper (producer), Tanja Bayer (Doctor) and myself make this little tent camp home having a small red tent each, a shared blue mess tent and a red rigid structure we called the apple that kept all cameras and lenses at outside ambient temps.

This was one of more difficult dive locations I’ve encountered. Finding entry points near the penguin that we could access with our snowmachine wasn’t an easy task. After a large katabatic wind event we called for the help of a helicopter to spot potential dive sites.

Though this shoot was incredibly challenging, It was so rewarding leaving me with knowledge gained about the working in this remote environment and these special animals.
